Juan Carlos Valerón has decided to leave the Unión Deportiva Las Palmas professionally for personal reasons, as confirmed by the island club in a statement this Wednesday.
The 43-year-old former international footballer returned to the club where he trained in July 2013, and five years later he has decided to leave the club.
Valerón announced his farewell to football on May 7, 2016 and since then the Sports Union designated him Honorary Captain in recognition of his "exemplary professional and personal career."
Once retired, Arguineguín was linked to the Training and Recruitment department directed by Manuel Rodríguez 'Tonono'.
In the 2016-2017 season, he joined the Catalan Binance App Users Data Manolo Márquez, coach of Las Palmas Atlético, as assistant, with whom he achieved promotion of the first yellow reserve team to the Second Division B.
In the following campaign, Valerón also accompanied Márquez on the coaching staff that took charge of the first team of the Unión Deportiva in the First Division, and combined that position with the Infantil B team.
With the subsequent arrival of coach Juan Manuel Rodríguez to the Las Palmas Atlético bench, Valerón returned to the reserve team as assistant coach.
In its statement this Wednesday, the island entity thanks Juan Carlos Valerón for "his dedication, professionalism, camaraderie and loyalty that he has always maintained with the team and the club", wishes him "all kinds of success", and reminds him that the UD Las Palmas "has been, is and will always be your home."
Valerón played for Deportivo de La Coruña for thirteen seasons, with whom he won two Spanish Super Cups and a Copa del Rey.
His first team after leaving Unión Deportiva Las Palmas was RCD Mallorca, where he spent only one season before signing for Atlético de Madrid.
After two seasons in the capital of Spain, closed with the red and whites' relegation to the Second Division, he joined Deportivo.
Valerón wore the Spanish national team shirt 46 times, scoring five goals, and participated in the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, as well as in two editions of the European Championship.
